PVPHA member and Rancho Palos Verdes resident, Geoff Sharp participated in the "2008 Route 66 Cattle Drive" held on Saturday, May 10.
To celebrate the opening of this year's San Bernardino County Fair, twenty-five riders from across the country
drove fifty head of
cattle up the Mojave
River and through
the main street of
Victorville onto the
San Bernardino
County Fair Grounds.
According to Geoff,
"This annual parade
is part of the opening
ceremony for the
San Bernardino
County Fair and I've
been wanting to do
this for years! My
family grew up around horses and cattle, so this was a dream come true for me."
Geoff Sharp is a top-level executive for an aero-space
engineering company based in Southern California and
active member of Cowboy Boot Camp.

A few PVPHA gals took a sunset ride to catch the view overlooking the Pacific at Portuguese Bend.
Wonder if they saw the "green flash?"

What a fun time PVPHA members enjoyed in September !
On the 18th, the General Meeting included our Annual Family Ice Cream Social. But, it was the dedication of the Fire Pit at the Empty Saddle Club that made this year's get together a bit more inviting.
With calf roping in the background and under a bright Western moon,
members and guests enjoyed banana splits with their favorite toppings
then gathered around a crackling fire. After a few words from PVPHA
Pres., Dale Allen and Empty Saddle Club/PVPHA'er, John McBride,
everyone settled back to the aroma of a campfire filled sky and good
conversation among friends.
Slowly people began to bring out their
musical instruments and everyone was
encouraged to sing-a-long to
the strains of "Back in the Saddle Again,"
"Ghost Riders in the Sky,"
and lots of other great cowboy tunes.
Even the youngsters got into
the act by learning a few of the songs.
It was great to see the kids
encouraged to keep these classics alive.
As the night came to a close, people began to drift to their cars for the drive home feeling we are so lucky to enjoy great camaraderie in such a wonderful place as Palos Verdes.
(Man, if that doesn't make you want to renew your membership or join PVPHA, nothing will !)

THEN....on the 20th, the City of Rolling Hills Estates held it's annual "City Celebration"
while the PVPHA sponsored the community Poker Ride.
Over 200 hands participated in the event and winning hands were awarded with prizes ranging from
plane rides to veterinarian check ups.
PVPHA President, Dale Allen with grandaughter, Victoria doubled check the winning hands as participants finished the Poker Ride at the Empty Saddle Club. Among the day's other activities included a Charo demonstration, Gymkhana and a Wild West Gunfight.
